A quick note: I don't think anybody who likes these books is lesser. I'm close friends with people who have enjoyed these books. I'm not a tight ass, baby, I promise. I'm not an arbitrator of "good" or "enjoyable" books. Nobody is. And people who claim to be suck. I admire all books that people enjoy. Enjoying a book really is special. My opinions on books are independent of my opinions on peop...

a big book unhaul | cleaning out my bookshelf
You're a real one because The Little Friend by Donna Tartt is truly such a good read!!
The Dutch House good book 👍🏼
I unhauled my copy of "The Strange Case of Dr Jekill and mr Hyde" too because of the ugly cover. The book itself is nice though.
I also hate Wuthering Heights, but Brontë was def not going for realism. Realism was not yet a popular art movement at the time of the novel’s writing. WH is a gothic novel heavily influenced by romanticism. It’s meant to be heavily emotional and dramatic. The melodrama is kinda the point. Edit: And this is also partly why the characters feel like caricatures…this is another characteristic of romanticism. Heathcliff is written to be a Byronic Hero.
😒
hunted down this video for a second watch post reading Moonwalking with Einstein and absolutely loving it. ty for the reccs, you gem! imma try and get through the others too
please come back
thought while watching: i would cast u as charles in a secret history adaptation
We miss your videosss
i miss u 😿
We miss you Charles. Please make another video soon
Thanks to you, and only you haha I've read The Secret History, finally, I loved it so so much and now I'm gonna read The Little Friend and I know I'll love it because man Donna Tartt is The Queen So yeah Thank You love your vibes you're the best
"What if I do a video...reading like a horse...that's the title. So I bought it again." I can't with your book-buying thought process.
but also you could add Half Broke Horses by Jeannette Walls to the list :0
where are you bestie? we miss you
cool
I know that it's easier to say as a fan than for you to do as the person creating videos, but what I love about watching your stuff is what you are just a real person giving us a glimpse of what youre reading and your opinion and your personality. Not because the topics are popular. Its genuinely great to hear and learn about different books or topics that arent the same ones i hear about in other booktube channels. I hope that you get to lean on putting your own reading pleasure and journey first in the future! If you just go about your way reading what you normally would even if you weren't making vids and just giving us a glimpse of that journey- that sounds awesome to me!
Thank you for the recommendations! They seem perfect for that melancholy but cozy mood of fall. Im biased because its my favorite book series but i feel like Lord of the Rings is so associated with fall to me. Outside of the descriptions of the shire in the begining that makes me so happy- the story in all takes place during the end of an era in the ruins of a greater time- Its literally in the Fall of the world. Perfect fall read to me, and of course reading the hobbit near the end of summer leading into fall. Annual tradition at this point 😅
Ive never read Wuthering Heights but i clicked so fast when i saw this title knowing that you were going to Have Opinions about it XD I only recently read Jane Eyre and thats a book thats similar to WH in that its been sort of lauded as his great 'romantic' classic. I have extremely mixed feelings about it. I can understand WHY its so big and loved and why people eat it up (i also ate it up)- but there are themes and aspects that... Leave a bad taste in my mouth. There are times Janes character slays and times im not not so sure. Im curious about what youd think about it and if youd point out the same things. BUT I wont recommend it directly to you because like you said itd be a waste of time to read something you wont like. Love your videos!!! Feels like a genuine book club XD
The worst part is every booktubers and booktok are recommending the same books! And there's people that rely on recommendations like me and we always just get let down and waste money and time. Also, I've been feeling the same way about other genres and how the bad books are the most popular and recommended. I'm starting to dislike reading because of the bad recommendations I've been getting and how overly popular they are. The same bad books are everywhere!
Doing my part to get you that ARC of a Donna Tartt book by liking subscribing and leaving a comment u_u)7
Dang! Rewatching this after reading some of your recommendations. I love A Thousand Acres, the Little Friend and Secret History. I felt totally unmoved and bored by The Great Believers! It just didn't hit me at all despite the subject matter. I wasn't invested in the Paris timeline and I felt like so much of the book was about Yale securing and assessing the damn art collection! Was not a fan of that book at all.
Where are you?? … Lead us faithful subs on & then drop us??! Seriously, not fair! 😂 SO Ready for you to drop a new video, please!! 😘😘😘 📚📚
For a long time I wanted to read Anne Karenina but I wasn't ready to read. Now, I'm gonna read it thanks a lot:)
give us your goodreads!!!!
okay Remus Lupin
you are absolutely right
Where are you now????? Lot’s are missing you. Maybe studying for school finals 🤫🤫. Hope to see you soon. 🤗❤️
The Little Friend. Very good writing. An interesting period piece. Realistic characters. But it was too much of a downer.
I read the little friend when I was 17 or 18 so maybe 6 or 7 years ago… all my life I had been scared of the face on the cover when I saw it on my parents bookshelf. When I read it I was disappointed but you’re really making me want to read it again
Can you please add the location of these stores???
The coolest person on youtube. And I don't even like cooking. I hate turkey. The amount of shrugging is what really does it for me, particularly meaningful shrugs 😅
